Leeds seriously interested in signing 22 y/o for just over £1m in January

According to a recent transfer update, Leeds United is reportedly very interested in finalizing the signing of a youngster who has received youth international caps.

Joel Piroe’s two goals helped Daniel Farke’s team defeat Stoke City 2-0 on the road, ensuring that the Whites are still winning the Championship. They still appear to be the favorites to win promotion back to the Premier League, as they lead the standings on goal differential ahead of Sheffield United.

There are still a number of transfer rumors circulating about possible deals during the January transfer window, with Genoa and Wrexham reportedly considering a loan move for Leeds forward Patrick Bamford, who is now out of favor.

Emiliano Buendia is still being considered as a transfer target, and the Whites have been interested in signing him for a while. The Argentine may be eager for a new challenge and a reunion with Farke, since he has only played 48 minutes for Aston Villa in the Premier League this season.

Despite their difficulties, Leeds is also considering a move for James McAtee, a young player from Manchester City who is an offensive midfielder who is not enjoying playing time under Pep Guardiola. Although he has recently been on loan at Sheffield United, a permanent transfer to the Etihad could happen.

According to a recent report from Fotboll Direkt, Leeds is interested in signing Mjallby AIF goalkeeper Noel Tornqvist as early as January. The 22-year-old was linked to a move to the team last year as well, and the Whites and 49ers could be able to sign him for as little as £1.1 million. Hasse Larsson, the sporting director for Mjallby, discussed the situation, saying: “The only thing I can comment on is that we know there is interest.” Given that Tornqvist is a young player playing outside of one of Europe’s top leagues, not much will be known about him, but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t be a strong addition to Leeds.

The Whites’ desire for greater depth between the sticks is evident, and the Swede has experience playing for Sweden at the international level, having earned seven caps overall in three different age categories.

Recent sources indicate that the Premier League, especially Manchester United, is interested in Illan Meslier. This would obviously increase the necessity to get a new goalkeeper during the January transfer window.

Caoimhin Kelleher, the goalkeeper for Liverpool, has been mooted as a potential addition to Elland Road in 2025. This would be a thrilling move, but Leeds has a younger and less expensive option in Tornqvist, who is 6′ 4.
He may take longer to establish himself as a key member of the Whites due to his inexperience, but he has made 63 appearances for Mjallby and kept 20 clean sheets during that time.
