Rangers send groaning international boss firm message about 25-year-old star

Rangers manager sends Steve Clarke firm Robby McCrorie message in Dumbarton clash

Robby McCrorie was given his first-ever minutes of the season against Dumbarton, seemingly in response to Scotland manager Steve Clarke’s plea.

The Rangers Academy goalie started the 4-1 triumph over the League Two team, ending Jack Butland’s illustrious career.

This comes after Scotland manager Clarke forewarned Robby McCrorie that in order to make his way into the squad for Euro 2024, he needs more first-team experience.

Although uncapped by the national side, McCrorie has been routinely invited into the Scotland squad and is viewed as a big goalkeeping prospect for the future.

Philippe Clement on Robby McCrorie

Robby McCrorie’s start against Dumbarton, according to Philippe Clement, is anything but a pitiful display, with the goalie richly deserving of the chance.

The Rangers manager was all praise for the 26-year-old’s efforts on the training field, as he is challenging Butland for the starting jersey.

In the first half, with the score at 0-0, McCrorie demonstrated his goalkeeping prowess by denying Michael Ruth with a point blank save.

When questioned about the save, Clement responded, “That’s why he’s there.” We offer him the confidence because he has demonstrated good performance during the trainings.

“I don’t give chances to give chances, it’s people who have pushed for it who get chances that’s why it was important that he could get this experience.”

Scotland manager urged Rangers transfer move

The comments will certainly be of interest to Scotland manager Steve Clarke following those Robby McCrorie Rangers warnings.

It’s rare to see an international manager get so involved in the affairs of a club but Clarke clearly feels McCrorie needs regular minutes to progress his career.

Since joining in the summer, Jack Butland has been an absolute gem in goal, but the team will undoubtedly try to finally cash in on the keeper by getting back to the Premier League.

Maybe the idea is for young Robby to eventually wear the number one jersey in Glasgow when they do.

I wonder whether Steve Clarke or Robby McCrorie would be willing to wait that long?
