How much Josh Maja earns a week at West Brom as Celta Vigo circle

Josh Maja, a forward with a lethal touch in front of goal, has been instrumental in West Bromwich Albion’s bid for promotion back to the Premier League this season.

After signing on a free transfer from French team Bordeaux, the Nigerian international had a turbulent debut season in the West Midlands. He was unable to make an immediate impression at The Hawthorns due to two severe ankle injuries that kept him out for most of the season.

Maja’s viewpoint has entirely changed in his second season with the blue and white stripes. He is currently the second-highest scorer in the division with 10 goals this season, impressing the Albion faithful with his fluid link-up play and goal-scoring ability.

Links regarding a move away from the Black Country have emerged as the 25-year-old has demonstrated his immense value in the second division. Spanish team Celta Vigo is reportedly interested in signing Maja to replace the seasoned Iago Aspas.

With the January transfer window looming and Maja’s future up in the air, Football League World takes a look at his estimated wage at West Brom, and how it compares to the rest of the Albion squad.

We must stress that all estimates made in this article are from Capology.

Josh Maja earnings at West Brom

Capology estimates that Maja, the Baggies’ frontman, makes £17,000 a week, making him the 12th highest paid member of the team.

Maja receives an estimated £884,000 year, which includes just under £23 million in annual spending and a significant amount of the £441,501 paid to players each week.

The Baggies are anticipated to spend more than £1.7 million for the forward, who still has two years left on his current contract. However, this might alter if the club offers him a more lucrative deal to stave off the incoming interest.

As previously said, Maja has eleven Albion players that are thought to be making more money than he does.

According to Capology, Alex Mowatt, Karlan Grant, and Gianluca Frabotta are all thought to make about £20,000 a week, while John Swift (£22,500) and Grady Diangana (£20,385) all receive high salaries.

Paddy McNair, Jed Wallace, and Darnell Furlong are positioned above them, earning £25,000 per week, while Daryl Dike receives £32,308. With an estimated weekly salary of £70,000, Mason Holgate is by far the club’s best paid player.

Carlos Corberan + West Brom

Given that the team is still having financial difficulties, Josh Maja’s salary at West Brom doesn’t seem to be too concerning. However, there is a chance that a new contract offer will come up to keep him in the blue and white stripes for the long run and raise his pay.

Celta Vigo’s reported £17 million proposal is a substantial sum of money for any Championship side to receive, and the team likely believe they can use the money to improve the squad’s overall quality by reinvesting it in a number of positions.

When given regular playing time, Maja excels and shows himself to be a dependable goalscorer at this level, raising the question of whether the sacrifice of goals at the top of the pitch is worth it.

Without a reliable goal scorer in the second division, Albion has little chance of returning to the Premier League, thus the Baggies should be determined to keep him for the remainder of this season at the very least, and then possibly start contract negotiations for a better deal.
