Dallas Cowboys: Dak Prescott’s Brother Fires Back At Haters, Makes Wild Bold Claim About QB’s Future In 2024.

The Dallas Cowboys are in an all-too familiar position.

A sizable segment of the fan base is dissatisfied with Dak Prescott as the team’s quarterback after he struggled once more in an early playoff exit, even after he may have had one of his best NFL seasons and was the MVP front-runner for the majority of the campaign.

Dak’s contract has a $59.4 million cap hit for the upcoming season, so an extension before the March 13, 2024, business year begins is probably in the works. It has always been the intention.

However, after what Prescott gave up against the Packers, some Dallas Cowboys supporters find the suggestion offensive. Maybe even after Dak’s MVP-caliber regular season, the Jones family still squirms a little.

There are two reasons – or at least there were before Sunday – for the contract extension. One is that the $59 mil cap hit is untenable; Dallas would struggle in 2024 to build a roster if left untouched, and being able to re-sign other players (especially CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons) would be almost impossible.

The Cowboys find themselves with a major decision on their hands when it comes to the future of their franchise and if they believe Prescott can turn his typically top-tier regular season numbers into postseason success.

Dak Prescott’s Brother Chimes In On QB’s Future While Dallas Cowboys Have Major Decision To Make For 2024

Prescott’s brother expressed his annoyance on social media on Saturday, saying he was fed up with the constant stream of messages urging the Cowboys quarterback to leave Dallas.

In an astonishing retort, Tad Prescott said that while he too would prefer his brother to move on, Dak wants to stay with the Cowboys.

“Why do Cowboy fans keep DMing me?” Prescott’s brother declared, “TRUST ME, I would leave Dallas if I could get @dak to do so.” Like you, I want him to leave Dallas. He loves this club and wants to win a championship; the city and organization have been wonderful to him and his family, but he is tired of the drama and the so-called supporters.

It;’s clear some fans are done with the Dallas Cowboys QB and the organization has reached a point where they have three major decisions to pick from this offseason according to team insider Mike Fischer.

The first is to continue to bank on Dask Prescott  which would likely require making him maybe the highest-paid player in NFL history, maybe at $60 million APY. He’ll be a “Cowboy for Life” on a long-term deal. And Jerry Jones and the fan base will have to live with it.

There is a chance Jones and company can  persuade Prescott to take less, both to help the cap and as a bow to the fact that he’s not “the best player in NFL history. It’s likely the Dallas Cowboys attempts a move like this, but will Prescott be okay with that knowing what other top QBs are making?

The next course of action is to trade or cut Prescott after June 1st; this will help mitigate the effects of the cap somewhat. However, the $59 million Cowboys quarterback would still need to be covered. If you leave Prescott, you’ll “gain” almost $9 million in additional space in 2024 and “save” $34 million.

Although the Dallas Cowboys quarterback’s trade or release would free up some much-needed contract room for the upcoming campaign, Jerry Jones would have to accept losing $25.5 million in dead money in 24 and an additional $36.5 million in dead money in 25. Not at all ideal.

Then there’s the reality another team would have to inherit Dak Prescott’s $59 million baggage, why does another team want it? And why would they give you anything of value back for the privilege of taking it on?

The worst-case scenario is that the Cowboys decide not to make a major offseason contract decision for Prescott, which is the last option. Why? The wage cap is entirely absorbed in 2024 rather than spreading to 2025, which means the team will have very little room to add to the roster or acquire new players. It will also be very difficult to re-sign important free agents and prolong superstars CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons.

This might backfire, preventing the team from improving for 2024 and adding to the tension in the locker room with a quarterback who feels underappreciated and teammates who hate him for delaying their pay.

Jerry Jones will probably attempt to convince Dak Prescott to accept a team-friendly contract with the Dallas Cowboys, even if it won’t be well received by the fan base. Even though Dak’s brother obviously wants him to switch teams, it may not be the best choice in the eyes of the fans, but dealing or releasing him now will hurt the team more than keeping him.
