Rangers transfer news as fresh twist emerges in Lawrence Shankland Hearts contract talks amid January links.

According to the Scottish Sun, Hearts’ new contract offer won’t be enough to convince Lawrence Shankland to stay at Tynecastle in the midst of rumors of a January move to Rangers.

The newspaper revealed on its website on Friday, January 20, that the 28-year-old’s new deal only contains a little pay raise, despite his stellar play early in the Scottish Premiership season.

Shankland is willing to turn down this latest offer, so Hearts will have to “up the ante” and offer a larger wage in an effort to convince the Scotland international to sign a contract if they want to keep their highly sought-after skipper for an extended period of time.

Philippe Clement has been linked to a January move to Ibrox in an effort to make up for the lack of firepower in his team, but Hearts have insisted thus far that they have not received any bids for the 28-year-old this month.

Get it done

It is becoming incredibly clear that Shankland wants a move to Rangers this month. It has previously been suggested that the 28-year-old is keen on making the switch to Ibrox and his latest actions would suggest that remains the case.

Rangers financially should be able to blow Hearts out of the water, especially when it comes to wage demands so the Light Blues should be able to quite easily match the offer made to Shankland and likely even better it by some way.

The Gers should have no trouble negotiating personal terms with their new frontman if they want to match Hearts’ asking price—which, should the Scottish international be nearing the end of his contract, is likely to be lower.

With any luck, the fresh information will prompt the Gers’ recruitment team to take action, allowing them to take a step toward the goal of signing a much-needed new number nine in January.

In other Rangers news, Andy Walker is furious over a “bizarre” new development at the SFA following the debate surrounding the Old Firm.
