QPR’s Steve Cook will miss some time due to an injury.

QPR’s head coach Marti Cifuentes expressed sadness after receiving an update on Steve Cook’s injury sustained during a 2-1 victory against Preston North End last Saturday.

The 33-year-old was hauled off after only 24 minutes of action in the Championship encounter, despite having played every minute of the season for the R’s up to that point. The centre-back is a key component of Cifuentes’ system at Loftus Road, but it has now been confirmed that he will be out for some time.

On Christmas Eve, the club announced on social media site X that a scan had confirmed a Plantar Fascia injury. Fortunately, there is no need for surgery. At this point, it is difficult to establish a precise healing timeline. Cookie will rest for 10 days before being reviewed.

It’s a major setback for a QPR defence that has regained consistency after a rocky start to the season. The London side has only surrendered two goals in their past six league games and is undefeated in seven.

Steve Cook had played every minute of the Championship season before his sub.

Cifuentes will need to select a replacement captain for the Boxing Day match against Swansea City. QPR return to play on December 29th, when they travel to Norwich City.

“That is the reality of football. I’m delighted Boxing Day is a major day for football in England, and I’m hoping for a terrific football game with our supporters in attendance, and that we can give them a good Christmas present.”
