“I can’t believe it” – Pundit reacts to Angus Gunn situation as Norwich City eye 27-year-old

The 28-year-old joined the Canaries in the summer of 2021 and has since made more than 150 appearances,

contributing to the team’s play-off finish the previous season.

The Scotland international hasn’t had a great season; in 16 games, he has only kept three clean sheets, and he

might feel that he might have done more to raise that total.

However, given that Gunn and Norwich appear to be at odds over his contract, it is increasingly probable that he

will depart Carrow Road as early as January. Johannes Hoff Thorup has expressed interest in Norwegian

goalkeeper Egil Selvik.

This Norwich team has already begun to bear Throup’s mark, and their interest in Selvik indicates that he is even

going so far as to replace a player who has been a mainstay for the team in recent years.

It appears that this change is the reason Gunn has not yet received a new contract offer; instead, he will be

searching for a new home.

Palmer, who is now a commentator, believes the Canaries are making a mistake and that the 28-year-old’s contract

problem has to be resolved immediately.

“Norwich City is searching for replacements for Angus Gunn,” he stated in an exclusive interview with Football

League World. Although Gunn has not signed a new contract, it is commonly known that talks have been going on.

Thus, there is growing concern that they might lose him at the conclusion of the season or during the January

transfer window.

“I would have thought that if he’s not going to sign a new contract then they’ll either try to sell him in the January

transfer window. If not, he’ll leave at the end of the season on a free. So, Norwich City are already weighing up

their options, and they’re interested in bringing Norwegian goalkeeper Egil Selvik to Carrow Road.

“His contract’s up at the end of the season with Norwegian side FK Haugesund. He’s spent the last four seasons

there, and it looks like he won’t sign a new contract, and he’ll be on the move. So, Norwich will be looking to get

him in the January transfer window.”

Palmer continued: “He’s been capped four times by Norway, so he’s a very experienced and capable goalkeeper

at the age of 27. Norwich seems to be the likely destination for Selvik and for Johannes Hoff Thorup it eases his

situation with his goalkeeper.

“It’s unbelievable. Although Gunn has been excellent for them, steady, and regular, you run the danger of this

happening if you don’t resolve these contracts as soon as possible. Players go through their contracts, and since

he’s free and other teams will be talking to their agents, it will be hard to work out a deal with them.

“They will be entering the office in January. It makes sense that Norwich will sell him during the January transfer

window if he doesn’t agree to a new deal.

“I’d be very surprised that Gunn is still at the football club come January if they bring a goalkeeper in.”

Gunn has been good for Norwich but the Canaries can improve on him

Norwich have struggled with consistency this season, and whenever they do seem to get themselves on a positive

run of form, they match that with a similarly poor run.

The Canaries need to be stronger defensively, and bringing in a new goalkeeper who perhaps has more control

over his backline will help them with that.

If their defensive problems don’t get better, they won’t have a chance to qualify for the playoffs, and Gunn might

have to step aside in the upcoming weeks as Thorup tries to make the adjustments his squad needs to move up the

table.

Selvik is a year younger than Gunn, and since the club may be able to sign him for free, it won’t be a huge financial

burden. He might also help Norwich challenge for a spot in the top six in 2025.
