Barry Ferguson details Rangers chat with Philippe Clement and issues warning to signings

Barry Ferguson discusses his conversation with Philippe Clement about Rangers and warns new additions.

Barry Ferguson saw Philippe Clement for the first time and now he is certain that Rangers are in good hands.

During his former team’s warm-weather winter training camp in Spain, the Ibrox hero and ex-aptain spoke with the manager at the team hotel. Having worked with both good and bad managers throughout the years, he was struck by the Belgian’s atmosphere and came away with the conviction that this is one of the best.

“I was over at the Rangers training camp in La Manga last week and I had the pleasure of bumping into Philip Clement at the team hotel after dinner last Saturday night,” he stated in a statement to the Daily Record. Since his hiring, I had not had the opportunity to present myself to the manager before.

The conversation on football and Scottish life in general was enjoyable. What I will say, though, is that I left that conversation smiling because it validated my suspicions, which I had formed even from a distance.

“This guy truly understands what it means to be a Rangers fan, I promise. And I cannot conceive of a greater honor to bestow upon him. He’s a straightforward man who avoids flowery language and grandiose words. He’s just an ordinary football man who knows what it takes to be the club’s manager and the responsibilities that go along with it. Above all, he understands that being a winner is the key to success in life as the Rangers manager.

“I have to admit that I’m not easily impressed. However, as I was leaving, I thought to myself, “That’s one impressive individual—this guy really understands what it’s all about.” In my time, I’ve also encountered a lot of managers. Some positive. Others, not so much. So when I see one, I know it’s a proper one. He is completely aware of the expectations, demands, and club. I also got the impression that my former team is in very capable hands.”

Additionally, Fergie believes it’s evident that the players support the manager and his strategies. Additionally, he anticipates that the players who signed last summer but didn’t immediately contribute would do so during the break.

“They were definitely putting in the work during their time in Spain,” he continued. They weren’t seen loitering at the pool or other areas of the complex.
