Rangers lament Joey Veerman miss as Premier League hustlers line up £21.5m move

Rangers regret Joey Veerman’s departure as Premier League contenders prepare a £21.5 million deal.

Rangers will be regretting the loss of Joey Veerman, as the top player from PSV Eindhoven is expected to join Premier League powerhouse Brighton.

With PSV, the 23-year-old Dutch international midfielder has had incredible success since joining the Eredivisie leaders two years ago.

But maybe we would be laughing all the way to the bank if Rangers had been more aggressive in the summer of 2021, when the Heerenveen midfielder was supposedly a target for Steven Gerrard.

As things turned out, it seems that Rangers would not accede to the transfer demands made by the Dutch club, and Joey Veerman’s career is set to take a new turn.

At least that’s what PSV Eindhoven-affiliated journalist Rik Elfrink of the Netherlands says, having covered the team extensively.

Will Joey Veerman depart PSV this summer?

Speaking on the DoneDeal podcast, Elfrink mused over the potential of Joey Veerman signing a new contract at PSV.

But apparently the midfielder has his eyes on bigger things this summer with the likes of Brighton and West Ham musing over potential €25m (£21.5m) interest.

Everyone knows that Veerman wants to take a step next summer,” said Elfrink. “That’s fine and also part of the phase of his career, he is one of the very best football players in the Eredivisie.

“He can make it a little easier for himself to take that step by not renewing. If he doesn’t extend, he will end up in a slightly different range.

“Then I think you should rate him between €20m-25m euros. If he extends, PSV will be able to ask for more than €30m. That is a bridge too far for many clubs and it may become a bit more difficult to make a transfer.

“He also stands out more and more because of his defensive statistics. That also makes him interesting for a number of English clubs. I understand that clubs like West Ham United and Brighton are in the front row for him. He can also become interesting for those clubs.”

Rangers’ poor transfers have cost the team

Rangers supporters think Steven Gerrard bolted at the first chance with Aston Villa because the team did not move for players like Joey Veerman.

The Ibrox team is now essentially back to playing catch up with Celtic, its Old Firm opponents, after failing miserably to build on the triumph of 55.

Although we’re sure the specifics of any transaction were more intricate, if Rangers were able to pull this off, it would have served as a declaration of intent for a squad in dire need of funding.

As things stand, the midfielder is dominating PSV Eindhoven, a team in the Champions League knockout round, and Rangers supporters are left wondering what may have been with Joey Veerman.

His growing potential in the game is demonstrated by his connections to Brighton, who have proven to be among the sport’s most cunning operators in recent years.

Rangers supporters are all too familiar with Joey Veerman, even if he never made his professional debut at Ibrox, thanks to their recent Champions League matchups between the two teams.

That is even in the event that
