The former Rangers manager signed a contract that initially kept him in the Middle East until 2025 and

relocated there in the summer.

After a dismal run of play that has seen his team win only one game since the end of October, Gerrard

has extended his contract until 2027.

The decision by star player Jordan Henderson to terminate his contract in advance of a planned move to

Ajax dealt another blow to the former Rangers manager.

He had previously left the Light Blues for Aston Villa in the Premier League, but things did not go to

plan and he was subsequently sacked after just eleven months.

And the bookies had recently slashed the odds on the Liverpool legend being replaced by Jose Mourinho

was removed from his post at Roma.

But it appears that Al-Ettifaq chief’s have backed Gerrard to turn things around.

Rabbi Matondo, meantime, has disclosed that he conducted extra finishing practices during the winter

break in the hopes of inspiring him to score more goals for the Rangers.

The winger scored a goal in a friendly match against FC Copenhagen midweek, and he now wants to

score more goals this season to support Philippe Clement’s team both at home and in Europe.

Due to injuries, Matondo has fluctuated in and out of the Rangers lineup under Clement. However, he is

back and playing well, so he intends to be around as a regular starter.

Scoring is always wonderful, he said to Rangers TV. It’s always wonderful to score in any game,

according to the manager, who always claims there are no friendly games. It was pleasant, and I hope
