Ruben Amorim and his team’s not-so-festive weekend came to an end yesterday with a sixth Premier League setback and back-to-back losses at Old Trafford.
Manchester United fans will be looking for joy elsewhere this Christmas, as the team has been confirmed to spend the day in the bottom half of the Premier League for the first time in history.
Bournemouth took the lead early in M16 on Sunday and cruised to an easy win in the second half, securing another 3-0 triumph at Old Trafford in two seasons.
The Reds attempted 23 attempts in all during the game, but only seven of them tested Kepa Arrizabalaga and required saves. Bournemouth had 10 shots, five of which were on target, with three of them going in. United also took 13 corners to the visitors’ two, but, as has been the case so often this season, were unable to convert any of their set-pieces.
Why United fans were growing frustrated with Andre Onana
When Craig Pawson blew the whistle to signify full-time, boos erupted, but a small group of matchgoers instantly showed their support for the manager by screaming ‘Amorim’s red and white army,’ according to Samuel Luckhurst.
They hadn’t shied away from expressing their displeasure with the players before that moment, and rightfully so given what they’d gone through. Luckhurst also stated after the match that supporters were ‘audibly irritated’ with Andre Onana for taking his time on the ball on multiple occasions; ironically, if he had done so against Viktoria Plzen earlier this month, they may not have been handed a goal.
The 13th-placed Reds’ next game is at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Boxing Day, followed by a home game against Newcastle United on December 30 at 8pm.
Their first game of 2025 is away to the league leaders at Anfield, where fans will undoubtedly be hoping for the heroics of Amad Diallo to save the day.
