Why Mario Lemina is not in Vitor Pereira’s first Wolves squad to face Leicester City
Fans hope that Pereira’s appointment will help the club recover from a poor start to the 2024/25 season. Wolves are currently 19th in the table and need to improve their defensive performance.
Wolves fans have noted that Mario Lemina, a player who has struggled this season, is not in the matchday squad to face Leicester.
Following rumors, journalist Liam Keen has revealed why he is missing out.
Wolves have officially published their starting XI for their match against Leicester, and many fans have noted that Lemina is missing.
Some suspected that Lemina was dropped by Pereira, who may have wanted to change things up for his first game.
However, neither his overall form nor his lack of discipline are to blame for his absence today.
According to Liam Keen of X, “Mario Lemina has a small knock and is not involved today.”
Keen adds that Lemina has a ‘calf issue’.
So Wolves’ midfield is all Brazilian today, with Joao Gomes and Andre forming a combination and Tommy Doyle on the bench.
So Lemina will miss today’s game due to injury, which will undoubtedly be quite distressing for the Gabon international.
It’s Pereira’s first game, and he’ll undoubtedly want to make an impression on the new manager, especially after struggling this season under O’Neil.
Gome and Andre will play today; they now hold the
Wolves were well-organised and posed a significant danger in the final third, with all of the damage occurring in the first half.
Goncalo Guedes scored first, followed by Rodrigo Gomes and Matheus Cunha who added two more goals before halftime.
Wolves then played quite well and appeared to be in control for the majority of the game.
Under Gary O’Neil, fans may not have felt secure with a three-nil advantage due to terrible defense this season.
However, Wolves performed admirably, and this result will instill great confidence.
Guedes had a wonderful outing and received some favorable feedback on social media following the game.
Guedes started only his second Premier League game against Leicester.
He started on the right side, with Jorgen Strand Larsen in the center and Matheus Cunha on the left.
Guedes delivered a standout performance, opening the score and assisting Cunha.
Guedes labored tirelessly against Leicester before being substituted by Hwang Hee-chan, and supporters praised the player after the match.
Few would have anticipated him to be a Wolves player at this time. But he stuck around, and Wolves are currently reaping the benefits, with the star contributing nine goals so far.
He wrote on Instagram after the game, ‘Grande vitória!’ (Big victory!).
Several players responded, including former Wolves attacker Diego Costa.
Diego Costa: ‘🔥🔥🔥’
Matheus Cunha: ‘What a player’
Jorgen Strand Larsen says ‘Golazooo❤️❤️’
Tommy Doyle: ‘Figo’
Pablo Sarabia: ‘🔥🔥👏👏’
Toti Gomes: “🤩❤️❤️.”
Jose Sa: ‘He’s unstoppable.
Given that he has only been working with the players for a few days, the Pereira era could not have started any better.
Granted, Leicester performed poorly against Wolves. But don’t take anything away from Wolves – this was an outstanding performance after their previous few games.
Guedes, who signed for Wanderers for £27.5 million, has been a standout player for the club and poses a significant threat whenever he touches the ball.
Guedes already has more league goals than Diogo Jota and Marcus Rashford combined, and he has a significant role to play moving ahead.
Villarreal is interested in signing Guedes in January and hopes he will stay.
Since Fosun assumed ownership of Molineux, the club has seen multiple players come in at a low cost, resulting in significant revenue.
Ruben Neves, Pedro Neto, and Diogo Jota joined years ago, and the club has made significant revenues from all of them in recent years.
Wolves have recently added Rayan Ait-Nouri and Joao Gomes to the club.
Both of these players could leave in the summer, and Wolves must begin planning for life without them.
Gomes, in particular, will be difficult to replace. But Dario Essugo might be a worthy successor.
Chelsea is tracking Dario Essugo, as reported by The Sun.
This season, the 19-year-old has been on loan at Las Palmas, the same club that now has Wolves forward Fabio Silva.
Essugo has made 11 appearances for them, having previously played 25 for his parent club Sporting CP.
Since making the transition to adult football, the Portugal U21 international has piqued everyone’s interest. Chelsea wants to sign him. The Blues had also expressed interest in him during the summer.
Leeds United, a Championship side, is also interested in Essugo.
However, he believes he is a player Wolves should consider, given the club’s ethos of signing young, unpolished players with the potential to become stars.
Wolves may be interested in him because to his Portuguese heritage, especially since Vitor Pereira has taken over for Gary O’Neill.
