With the January transfer window just around the corner, Celtic will certainly be connected with several players in the coming weeks.
After Hoops winger James Forrest’s recent setback, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers may be tempted to enter the transfer market and sign another winger as a backup.
Adding another striker was probably an option, but with Celtic recalling Jonny Kenny from Shamrock Rovers in January, it appears that there is no need to add a new frontman to the squad.
However, it appears that one player who has recently been connected with Celtic may be on the move after Enzo Maresca revealed he will ‘try to find a solution’ to his £20 million man’s dissatisfaction with being kept out of his Chelsea squad.
Enzo Maresca admits Carney Chukwuemeka might ‘want to leave’ Chelsea amid Celtic links
Chukwuemeka was linked to Celtic this month after struggling to break into Enzo Maresca’s squad, with a loan move to Parkhead being discussed.
And, speaking at Chelsea’s news conference ahead of today’s match against Everton, Maresca admitted that his £20 million man may want to leave Stamford Bridge.
Maresca told Chelsea TV, “There are players who, unfortunately, did not play much with us in all competitions, such as Ben Chilwell and Carney Chukwuemeka.”
“They are probably the first to declare they want to leave because they practice every day and want to play games, and if they don’t play games, they are probably thinking about leaving.
“Every player is in a little different circumstance. So we’ll see if any of them come pounding on the door and saying, ‘I want to leave’ or something. We’ll endeavour to find a solution.”
Celtic-linked Carney Chukwuemeka’s statistics with Aston Villa and Chelsea
Chukwuemeka, 21, was born in Austria and has plenty of time to develop himself as a first-team player, whether at Chelsea or elsewhere.
However, how do his figures compare at both Aston Villa and Chelsea, and do they make interesting reading for Celtic fans?
Carney Chukwuemeka | Played | Goals | Assists |
Aston Villa | 16 | 0 | 1 |
Aston Villa B (U18 & U19) | 55 | 13 | 13 |
Chelsea | 32 | 2 | 1 |
Chelsea U21 | 2 | 0 | 0 |
Stats from Transfermarkt
With nearly 50 games for Chelsea and Aston Villa, it’s apparent the teenager has the ability to play at the highest level.
It’s also evident that at £100,000 per week at Stamford Bridge [Spotrac], a move to Celtic could be impossible unless the Premier League team covers the majority of Chukwuemeka’s wage.
