John Eustace reaffirmed Blackburn Rovers’ need for assistance in the January transfer window and insisted that the season’s goal is to improve further.
The Rovers manager hopes to add a pair of ‘quality’ players to his overperforming side in the New Year transfer window. CEO Steve Waggott has acknowledged plans to improve Eustace’s options next month.
The group has done admirably and does not require much. However, a centre-forward is an evident gap that must be filled if they are to truly surprise many and finish in the top six.
Another long-term goal of Eustace’s is to strengthen the left wing. When asked about Rovers’ season goals, he reaffirmed the importance of this.
“No, the goal is to do better than last season, to build and grow,” he replied when asked if promotion was the goal by a non-local reporter.
“I’m here to achieve that and make us competitive week in and week out, as well as a championship force. The major goal is to do that, and we are currently 10 months in.
“Last season was difficult, and you can see where we progressed and how we are growing on and off the pitch. The goal is to do better than last year.
“The goal is to improve with half the season remaining. We intend to bring players in during January to improve the squad. That is the goal, to do so and improve week after week.
“We don’t need loads, a few quality players to help the current group.”
Rovers have had a couple players struggle with illness in camp. Callum Brittain returned to the squad after missing two games, and Tyrhys Dolan has also struggled in the recent week.
That was why Owen Beck did not start at Millwall, and Harry Leonard travelled but was not selected on the bench. “Owen has been sick for the past three days and did very limited exercise yesterday. “We knew we couldn’t get 90 minutes out of him,” Eustace said.
“Toddy heading to the left was a little strange. We came here to win, but we were disappointed because we did not receive anything. Harry Leonard was only a choice.”
