Wycombe Wanderers manager Matt Bloomfield has admitted that he has ‘no idea’ whether Aaron Morley will remain with the club in January.
The 24-year-old joined the Chairboys on a season-long loan from League One rivals Bolton Wanderers, where he has played an important role in the club’s successful season thus far.
He has started 15 of his 16 league games for Adams Park and has yet to suffer loss in the division with his new team.
However, Bolton can recall Morley in January, when Trotters manager Ian Evatt told the local press in Greater Manchester that, while he will not make his plans public, the club ‘knows’ what they want to do.
When asked if the midfielder will stay at Adams Park next month, Bloomfield replied: “I have no idea, and it’s not my decision – two things I dislike: not knowing and not having control.
“We don’t own him, but he has been very good for us and we’ll see what January holds.”
Bloomfield’s comments came following the Chairboys’ 0-0 draw with Bolton on December 20 at Adams Park.
The draw, which was the club’s penultimate home game of 2024, retained them at the top of the standings [this could change if Birmingham beats Crawley on December 23] and extended their unbeaten streak in the division to an unprecedented 18 games.
Tyreeq Bakinson, a central midfielder, and Alex Hartridge, a left-back, were two of the players who started against the former Premier League team.
Despite some promising performances, the two have failed to find continuous playing time in South Buckinghamshire, but Bloomfield was pleased with their efforts.
He continued, “They put in no more than I expected because they are extremely excellent players.
“We want Ty to be consistent because he has put in some really high-quality performances, but there were a handful that weren’t at the level we wanted, and he is aware of that.
“Alex is a very competent player, but due to Dan Harvie’s excellent form, he has found football difficult to come by.
“I was not concerned about those boys coming in [against Bolton].”
“I was confident of the performances they would give and they did themselves justice tonight.”
Specifically, he added of Hartridge, who has only made four league starts for the club since joining from Exeter in the summer: “I felt Alex was really excellent.
“He played a lot of left-sided centre back in a three-man defence at Exeter, so we knew it would be a challenge for him to play as a center back.
“I still believe he can do it if necessary, but as a fullback, he’s done exceptionally well in cup games and has been extremely patient.
“He is an incredible man, and I like him as a person. He is very diligent with his work, and he does not moan or complain.”
“He has also been out of the team for a long time, which has made things difficult for him.
“It’s the first time he has moved away from Exeter and he’s had a lot to deal with, but I am proud of him.”
