San Francisco 49ers bold predictions for Divisional Round vs. Packers
The 49ers look to make their way back to the Super Bowl, first starting with the Packers in the divisional
round.
If you’re the 49ers, you might be a little taken aback by the opposition, considering how little of a chance
the Packers had to win their road game against the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card last weekend.
However, the Packers completely outclassed the Cowboys at home, triumphing 48–32.
In their last six playoff appearances, the 49ers have at least made their way to the conference
championship game or better. But they’ve also lost two straight NFC title games, with last year’s loss to
the Philadelphia Eagles not being particularly close in margin. Of course, last year’s 49ers team was
suffering through multiple injuries, whereas this year’s team seems to be the healthiest San Francisco
squad entering the postseason in the last several seasons. A bye week definitely didn’t hurt either.
This year’s 49ers group was among the most talented in the NFL this season, which is why they earned
the top seed in the NFC. Now they have to be prepared for the unexpected against a young, talented,
fiery Packers team that is out to make a splash in the NFC, upsetting all the favorites along the way. With
that said, let’s get into some 49ers divisional round bold predictions.
49ers jump out to an early lead
The Packers surprised everyone last week against the Cowboys, maybe even themselves when they went
up 27-7 at halftime. Green Bay could get a taste of their own medicine on Saturday when they have to
travel to Santa Clara to face the 49ers.
The Packers have cleaned things up defensively it seems in the last three games, even if they did allow
the Cowboys to make a bit of a comeback in the Wild Card game last week. But they had other games
where they let leads slip away that made them have to rally back to hold teams off. Four out of their last
six wins were by one score. And most of those were against subpar offenses. Imagine what will happen
when they face the 49ers, who have the No. 2 total offense in the league?
It’s possible that head coach Kyle Shanahan is keeping quiet about McCaffrey’s injury in the lead-up to
the divisional meeting. But according to Shanahan as reported by NBCSports, he does state that he’s
“geared up and ready to go.” It’s unclear, though, how much he and the 49ers will rely on him.
It’s not like McCaffrey is a must for the 49ers. Though they have an abundance of offensive weapons at
their disposal, he has undoubtedly been a huge asset to the offense—especially for Brock Purdy—making
the running game crucial and relieving pressure on the inexperienced quarterback. Despite having the
most rushing yards in the NFL (1,459), McCaffrey missed the final two weeks of the regular season due
to a right calf strain.
