Rabbi Matondo’s current goals are to put his injury problems behind him and support Rangers as they

compete in the Europa League, win the Premiership, and the Scottish Cup in the second half of the

season.

But the winger, who scored the first goal in Tuesday night’s 2-2 friendly tie at Ibrox against Copenhagen,

has even more motivation to return to form in the upcoming days, weeks, and months.

The 23-year-old, who has received 11 caps, hopes to re-enter the Wales team and help them advance to

this summer’s Euro 2024 championships in Germany.

On March 21, his country’s national team plays Finland in Cardiff in the Path A play-off semifinal.

If they prevail in that outing they will play either Estonia or Poland three days later for a place in Group

D alongside the Netherlands, Austria and France.

After sustaining a knee injury during a league victory over Motherwell last year, Matondo missed two

months of action. He hasn’t played for Wales since a June 2022 Nations League match against the

Netherlands.

However, he is keen to play over the upcoming international break and thinks he can earn a recall if he

can perform well for Rangers both domestically and internationally.

When asked if he was eager to compete in the Euro 2024 playoffs, he replied, “Absolutely.” On those

stages, everyone aspires to represent their nation. That ultimately depends on how successful you are at

your club, though.

Matondo, who signed a £2.5 million contract in 2022 from Schalke 04 in Germany, has been encouraged

by the fact that Rob Page, the manager of Wales, and his coaching team have monitored his development

during his absence.

“There was a lot of communication there when I was injured,” he remarked. “When would I return and

other such details. As of right now, March is still a long way off. I just need to concentrate on my club,

then. The national squad will undoubtedly take the necessary action.

The former Manchester City player has only made brief impressions since coming to this nation, but he

appears ready for a longer stint in the starting lineup when the winter break ends and competition

returns this weekend. Abdallah Sima is currently representing Senegal in the African Cup of Nations in

the Ivory Coast.

The Scottish Cup fourth round match against Dumbarton at The Rock on Saturday night is the first

opportunity he is keen to seize and show off his skills, and he believes that having Philippe Clement

monitoring his development will make it possible.
