The Turkish defender has been linked to transfers to Verona and Galatasaray thus far this month.

According to rumors, the Turkish powerhouse would be interested in signing him on a first loan

agreement after they had already worked out personal conditions [Milliyet, 17 January].

The defender, according to Turkish journalist Sabuncuoglu, has “no desire” to leave the Light Blues

before the end of January, and the team would only permit the left-back to leave for a price as high as

£4.3 million [€5 million] this month.

Speaking on the Sports Digitale YouTube channel (17 January) he said: “He rejected the offer from

Galatasaray. Right now, Ridvan Yilmaz continues to play, and Philippe Clement has no desire to lose him

on loan to Galatasaray. I also talked to Ridvan’s entourage, and they said, ‘We do not have an agreement

with any team yet’.

“Let me tell you, Galatasaray have to loan him through a compulsory purchase. For this, they do not fall

below €5m. If a figure of €5m or more comes directly, they will accept his sale and let him go. But for

now, Ridvan is playing.

“Ridvan is one of the professionals in the current squad who is currently on Rangers’ need list. There is a

perception that they want to get rid of Ridvan but there is no such situation.

“The Verona move has been discussed; let’s not overlook them. They will purchase Ridvan if they sell their left back. The foreign press has reported on the cancellation of that move.

Not a wish

In a perfect scenario, Rangers would prefer to extend the January transfer window at Ibrox and retain

Yilmaz there. There are still plenty of choices for Clement to choose from at full-back, and the Belgian

cannot afford to lose both Borna Barisic and the Turkish defender in the same season.

But if a sizable offer is made, such as the £4.3 million that Sabuncuoglu has suggested, a deal might be

reached—as long as the Gers make a respectable amount of money.

Rangers are in a strong negotiation position because of Clement’s unwillingness to sell and the fact that

Yilmaz and Galatasaray have not been able to come to an agreement regarding the personal aspects of a

transfer.

The Light Blues should be able to recoup a good amount of money for his services even if they are unable

to keep him at Ibrox past the January transfer window.
