According to a rumor, Celtic is now in the midst of negotiations to sell a defender this January.
Celtic is battling on all fronts.
After defeating Rangers in the League Cup final last week, the Hoops won their first trophy of the season. Brendan Rodgers‘ team is also doing very well in the league, sitting atop the Scottish Premiership table.
Since several players have been linked to moves to Parkhead, there are indications that Rodgers may be busy this winter even if there doesn’t seem to be a pressing need for him to bolster his team during the January transfer window.
The most recent player to be linked to a return to his old team is Kieran Tierney of Arsenal. In a recent interview, Rodgers refused to rule out a reunion with the left-back, stating: “We’ll always be linked with top players and especially players that are one of us.” During my time here, Kieran played a key role in a really, incredibly successful time.
“His skills then led him to another task, but due of his circumstances, Kieran will unavoidably be associated with many names. However, we won’t discuss a player until after he signs a contract.
Celtic’s upcoming Scottish Premiership games | Date |
Dundee United (a) | December 22nd |
Motherwell (h) | December 26th |
St. Johnstone (h) | December 29th |
Rangers (a) | January 2nd |
St. Mirren (h) | January 5th |
In January, there may also be some exits, maybe to fund Celtic’s own transfer activities. It has previously been stated that they are negotiating Alexandro Bernabei’s permanent sale with Internacional.
Internacional president Alessandro Barcellos has disclosed that negotiations are in progress and that the Hoops are willing to lower the asking price to €5 million (£4.1 million) in order to facilitate the deal. Additionally, they are asking for a portion of any upcoming sales.
Therefore, it is evident that Bernabei is not part of Rodgers’ future plans, and a permanent move to Brazil in January appears to be the most likely option.
A wise choice for everyone
Although the Argentine was never able to establish himself in the Celtic starting lineup, he has made a strong impression while on loan at Internacional, as evidenced by their desire to extend his loan.
