Kieran Tierney sees his Celtic transfer return split the Jury but it’s a different story for Cyriel Dessers at Rangers.
Record Sport’s best crew is on hand to discuss FOUR major issues in Scottish football.
What are your opinions on Celtic’s desire to re-sign Kieran Tierney?
Michael Gannon believes Tierney would be a regular in the English Premier League without his current injury struggles. Celtic’s ability to re-establish and sustain his fitness would be a game changer.
FRASER WILSON: Massive danger. If the player can be fit for 90-95% of games and is in the Hoops’ salary range, it’s a no-brainer. However, there are concerns about Tierney’s current fitness levels.
Scott Burns:You can see why Celtic is all over this deal. This makes sense. A successful Scottish international who has been there, done that. His injuries have been a problem, but I’m sure whatever trade Celtic make will be highly reliant on KT playing.
Will officials face further criticism now that Willie Collum has verified the Premier Sports Cup Final blunder?
MICHAEL GANNON: They will be under the limelight. It was a severe error, and authorities should be warned to step up their game.
FRASER WILSON: This is correct on the VARs.The Hampden penalty error was not the only one made over the weekend; just look at Motherwell’s match versus Dundee United. Hopefully, this concentrates the minds of those at the video controls.
SCOTT BURNS: Every other week, there are discussion points about referee mistakes and VAR. Nothing will change on that front. The authorities just need to strive to reduce the mistakes, but there will be more scrutiny, particularly from Rangers supporters.
Cyriel Dessers came under fire for failing to take a penalty in that game; is his career at Rangers over?
Michael Gannon is a friendly striker with a positive attitude and a consistent goal scoring record. However, he cannot be counted on in critical situations, which is a luxury the Rangers cannot afford.
According to Fraser Wilson, the Rangers should accept any reasonable offer. Dessers is at an age where he’s not going to get better. And he’s simply not good enough for Rangers.
According to Scott Burns, Rangers are willing to trade him if offered a reasonable price. That is, if they do not continue, he will score goals while also missing significant opportunities! Rangers cannot afford to let another player’s value plummet.Hearts plummeted out of Europe and are at the bottom of the table. Should there be any pressure on Neil Critchley?
According to Michael Gannon, Critchley entered a club in a downward spiral and has yet to turn it around. Recruitment and a loss of confidence have contributed to this, and Hearts will need a massive January transfer window to turn things around.
According to Fraser Wilson, sitting in the Tynecastle press box on Thursday night, fans are putting pressure on the manager. His team pick was daring, but it never worked. The Jambos have gone back to their old ways.
SCOTT BURNS: The blame shifts from the Hearts board to the players. They have not performed well enough. Critchley is new, but he has to step up his game because many of the displays and outcomes under him have also been unacceptable.
