THREE lanes of the M5 in Worcestershire were closed for over an hour after a car burst into flames.
Firefighters battled the flames on Tuesday evening (December 17), working to reopen the road as soon as possible.
A spokesperson for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: “Two crews, one from Worcester and one from Bromsgrove Fire Stations, were called at 7.02pm to a small vehicle on fire on the M5 northbound between junctions 6 (Worcester) and 5 (Droitwich).”
“One car was well alight with the fire extinguished by one firefighter wearing breathing apparatus and using one hosereel jet.”
Once the fire brigade had dealt with the incident, National Highways recovered the car.
A representative for National Highways Midlands said: “We saw the fire on our CCTV cameras just after 7pm.
“Three lanes were stopped as firefighters dealt with the situation but we always had at least one lane functioning.
“The incident was cleared by 8.30pm.”
Neither West Midlands Ambulance Service nor West Mercia Police attended the incident.
