Ex Rangers defender sees transfer hopes ‘fade’ as Belgian club ‘could be priced out’ of January move.
Odense has put a whopping £850,000 price tag on former Rangers defender Filip Helander, after the Danish team turned down a second offer from Anderlecht.
The 30-year-old center back left Ibrox last summer after four injury-plagued years in Glasgow, and he only signed a 12-month contract with the Superliga team. And even if his contract expires at the end of the season, his parent club wants FIVE times what Anderlecht is willing to provide.
Because of this, the 23-time capped Swedish international may potentially be priced out of a move by the Belgian behemoths, who previously had an upgraded offering of £175,000 rejected before their first £125,000 offer was rejected.
Helander, who moved to Denmark and has managed to accrue crucial minutes, disclosed last week that he was unsure of his future. “It is difficult to say what will happen,” he acknowledged. All I can connect to is that I have a contract that expires in the summer. I’ll make the decision if anything else occurs. I haven’t had any offers yet, but I won’t turn anything down.”
Scouts at the Brussels club have been impressed by his performances, but it appears unlikely that Helander will be signed on the cheap because Odense’s high transfer fee will likely deter other possible bidders.
Helander has expressed remorse about the outcome of his time in Govan after previously moving to Rangers for £3.5 million in 2019. Helander had previously moved to Bologna.
