Philippe Clement addresses Rangers’ lack of transfer activity, Ridvan Yilmaz situation and reveals ‘big blow’

Philippe Clement addresses Rangers’ lack of transfer activity, Ridvan Yilmaz situation and reveals ‘big blow’

Although the club’s lack of activity during the January transfer window has not “frustrated” Rangers boss Philippe Clement, he has expressed disappointment with the loss of another player to a long-term injury.

Speaking following his team’s 2-2 draw against FC Copenhagen during their winter break, the Belgian acknowledged that by now he had wanted to

have added some fresh faces to his roster beyond Wolves loanee Fabio Silva. As he disclosed the “major setback” of Kieran Dowell suffering an injury at the team’s training camp in La Manga last week that would keep him out of commission for “roughly two months.”

However, he insisted that everyone at the team was “aligned” in their efforts to bolster his roster before the end of the month.

“A few more are required in specific positions. I am aware that everyone involved in that at the club is working on it day and night.

We communicate frequently. Although those things have kept us very busy, nothing is finished until the player, us, and the opposing team all sign

the same document. I’m waiting and keeping my attention on the players present. In addition to the numerous conversations we are having with

players, I am observing other gamers. That’s what I have to do come January. Because of this, every manager is always relieved that the busy time is over on February 1.

“I hear every detail about everything that is coming closer to signing or not. I know everybody is working day and night. I’m not frustrated.

I want the best for the club, the best for the group and I know everyone’s working really hard for that. If it’s tomorrow, or the 31st of January, that’s difficult because we don’t control those things.”

Despite the constant speculation that Ridvan Yilmaz will move on in this window, Clement made plain he is in control of that situation, suggesting

any sale of the Turkish left-back would be contingent on Rangers strengthening in that berth so as not to be left with Borna Barisic – in the final six

months of his contract – as their only senior option for it.

When asked about Yilmaz’s predicament, he responded, “I cannot respond on that for any player who is here.” “I have one thing on my mind.

Everyone present is a Rangers player, and I, together with the entire team, promise to bring out the best in each and every one of them.

However, we must talk about any offer that is too good to turn down or that benefits the team for any Rangers player. That isn’t the case right now. This is Ridvan, and he initiated the game.

“We’ll see if a left back is necessary.” In the upcoming few months, players must also demonstrate that they genuinely want to be here.

We must ensure that we have answers and be ready for anything, including every situation. We have two players in that one position.

While there are many rumors circulating about the other, one [Barisisc] is nearing the conclusion of their contract. It follows that we must be

prepared for that role. We can’t continue playing with just one full-back for three competitions. That’s accurate and it is the same in other positions.
