Dallas Cowboys warned Bill Belichick would be “match made in hell” in brutal assessment.
Bill Belichick is a candidate for the Dallas Cowboys head coaching job if it becomes available, but ESPN host Shannon Sharpe does not think he and owner Jerry Jones would work well together.
The only reason the Eagles and Cowboys seem to be considering replacing their head coach is if they can bring in Belichick this offseason and
improve. They don’t want to draw attention to themselves by approaching Belichick since that would be detrimental to their existing head coach.
There may be a covert bidding war between two fierce NFC East rivals this week in the NFL if the reports and speculations about the Eagles and
Cowboys seeking Belichick are true. If the Eagles or Cowboys can persuade Belichick to join their sideline, the intricacies of such a bidding war will make for an entertaining read.
The worst would occur. A match created in hell, really. There isn’t a worse combination than Bill Belichick and Jerry Jones.
He fired Jimmy (Johnson) for a cause. He fired William Parcells. Do you get it? stated Sharpe.
Under Parcells, Coach Belichick gained knowledge. Jimmy has more in common with Coach Belichick than he does with Coach Parcells. What has he done since firing Parcells?
“Hired the Dave Campos, the Mike McCarthys, the Jason Garretts, the Wade (Phillips), and the Chan Gaileys (all of whom hired before Parcells).
He’s not interested in that kind of coach (Belichick). He aspires to be all-powerful. He desires to be its spokesperson.”
Sharpe then ranted about Jones being left uncharacteristically speechless after the Packers game before returning to the question:
“No, this would be a terrible match, Coach Belichick and Jerry Jones.”
Whether they would work together remains to be seen, but Belichick did not harm his candidacy when praising the franchise during the regular
season while still Patriots coach. After New England’s blowout loss in Dallas in Week 4, he singled out Jones in particular.
“I have a ton of respect for Jerry and [director of player personnel Stephen Jones] and the way they run the organization down there
,” Belichick stated. “They’ve been successful for decades. With Jimmy [Johnson], they were truly the team of the 1990s, and they have performed well.”
“Year after year, they have been competitive—obviously better than competitive. There have been many excellent players there.
According to former Cowboys coach Garrett, they have a mutually beneficial relationship and are “close” and “good friends” who “really like and respect each other.”
