Middlesbrough winger Isaiah Jones is attracting interest as he targets a move away from the club, according to Football League World.
Middlesbrough will be hopeful that a successful January transfer window would help them push for a place in the Championship play-offs.
Michael Carrick and co. fell short last season, but there are encouraging indicators this time around. Boro’s consistency is still an issue, but when they play well, they are unstoppable.
The attack has been electrifying, but winger Isaiah Jones has been withdrawn from the squad. The clever and fast 25-year-old has made only three appearances since his last start on November 2nd, totaling 25 minutes.
As January approaches, Football League World reports Jones is considering a move away from Middlesbrough.
He only signed a new contract in April, which keeps him at Boro until 2027. However, due to his decreased playing time, Jones is considering a move away in January, and interest is growing.
It is unclear who is after the former non-league star, but his performance in the Championship suggests that second-tier clubs will be on his trail if the opportunity to move elsewhere in January arises.
A part to play?
Middlesbrough manager Carrick has stiff competition for positions on the right.
Having Jones and Liverpool loan player Ben Doak at your disposal is a luxury that many Championship managers would relish. Jones, on the other hand, has been pushed to the sidelines since Doak has secured the starting position.
Someone as dangerous as Jones deserves additional opportunities, which may be available despite the packed holiday schedule. However, if someone else can offer him game time, he may choose to go somewhere else.
Boro have players who can cover there if necessary, but Carrick may prefer a natural right-sided addition if Jones moves on.
Looking ahead
The January transfer window is approaching in 2025, but Middlesbrough must first complete several key games before turning their attention to those.
The next game will be against Plymouth Argyle at Home Park. The Pilgrims are out of form and fighting relegation, but they’re a difficult team to face at home.
Boro then said goodbye to 2024 with back-to-back home games. Sheffield Wednesday will play first on Boxing Day, followed by an attractive match against fellow promotion contenders Burnley to cap out the year.
