Fire Three Assistant Coaches in Major Staff Shake-Up

Pete Carmichael, the New Orleans Saints’ longtime offensive coordinator, is leaving the position, the team announced Tuesday afternoon.

The 52-year-old Carmichael, who has called offensive plays for the Saints the last two seasons, has decided to leave ways with the team amid speculations of an offensive staff shake-up in New Orleans this offseason.

Carmichael joined the Saints staff in 2006 as the quarterbacks coach after stints in Washington and San Diego. Three years later, under then-Saints head coach Sean Payton, he was moved to offensive coordinator.

The Saints also announced they are parting ways with senior offensive assistant Bob Bicknell and wide receivers coach Kodi Burns.

“I would like to thank Pete, Bob and Kodi for their service to the New Orleans Saints and to this coaching staff,” Saints head coach

stated in a statement Dennis Allen. “Although they are never simple to make, these choices are essential to our progress. In particular, I want to thank Pete for his eighteen seasons of service to this crew. I greatly like him as a colleague and for the work he has done.

With Carmichael in the lineup, the Saints advanced to nine straight postseason games, winning one of them against the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV.
