Raiders’ Maxx Crosby breaks silence after undergoing season-ending surgery

The Raiders will be without defensive stud Maxx Crosby for the rest of the 2024 season.

During their 2-12 season, the Las Vegas Raiders have struggled in every aspect. Maxx Crosby, a talented defensive lineman, will miss the rest of the season due to ankle surgery.

Crosby sustained his season-ending injury in Week 15 against the Denver Broncos. Crosby remains optimistic despite not being able to compete with his teammates for the rest of the season.

“Everything happens for a reason,” Crosby posted on his X, which was originally Twitter. “The Bounce Back Will Be Iconic.”

Both the Raiders and Crosby are facing a challenging offseason. Beyond 2024, the defensive end’s deal includes no guaranteed money. While he is under contract until 2026, he is surely seeking for a longer-term agreement and greater stability.

Crosby has spent his whole NFL career with the Raiders, and they surely want to keep him on the defensive line. However, Las Vegas has not made the playoffs since their migration. In fact, they have not moved past the Wild Card Round of the playoffs since 2022, when they were defeated in the Super Bowl.

The Raiders desperately need a franchise quarterback. Gardner Minshew and Aidan O’Connell have shown glimpses, but neither has proven to be the long-term option at centre. With a high draft pick in 2025, Las Vegas will be able to select one of the top prospects, barring a late-season run.

However, dealing Maxx Crosby would simply provide the Raiders with more valuable selection picks. There are weaknesses throughout the team, despite the fact that quarterback is a critical need. Pairing their future quarterback with top offensive line and receiver options would maximise their chances of success.

Still, losing Crosby would be a huge blow. Since joining the team in 2019, he has recorded 366 tackles, 144 quarterback hits, and 59.5 sacks. Crosby was named to three straight Pro Bowls, and with 7.5 sacks in 2024, he appeared to be on track.Furthermore, Crosby had not missed a game until the 2024 season, demonstrating his resilience.

For the time being, the Raiders will focus on finishing the season strong and reviewing their organisation for the following year. It’s unclear whether Crosby will still be on the roster in 2025.
