David Jurasek to Rangers transfer links, player profile and analysis

At the end of the current campaign, Borna Barisic’s contract will expire, and Ridvan Yilmaz is still being connected to other teams. Yilmaz might depart this month, but before allowing his departure, Rangers would undoubtedly need to sign a left back. Now that Sport1 reporter Christopher Michel has revealed that Rangers is vying with Marseille and two Bundesliga teams for Benfica left back David Jurasek, let’s take a closer look at the player’s background.

David Jurasek, the story so far

When Jurasek was a teenager, he played for Dolni Nemci and Slovacko in the Czech Republic’s youth divisions before moving to Zrbojovka Brno. Before moving to Prostejov in 2020, the left back established himself as a key member of the first squad, switching from one second-tier team to another. With three goals in 26 games, Jurasek grabbed attention and was signed by Mlada Boleslav in 2021.

Jurasek made a significant transfer to the Czech powerhouse Slavia Prague just seven months after signing with Mlada Boleslav, demonstrating his ongoing rapid growth. Jurasek truly began to establish himself at that point, scoring three goals and dishing out 14 assists in 55 games.

Jurasek was on the move yet again just over a year after joining Slavia as Benfica pounced in a huge deal worth up to €14million (£12million) last summer.

The hope was that Jurasek would replace Alejandro Grimaldo in the Benfica side but that really hasn’t happened with the Czech international making just six league appearances.

David Jurasek, their words.

“He made amazing growth from when he was still playing in the second tier two years ago.We presently view David as an absolutely crucial and irreplaceable player since fullbacks are crucial to our style of play,” said Slavia manager Jindřich Trpišovský.

“He demonstrated all of his strengths. We usually refer to him as an exceptional player. Not only for Slavia, but also for Czech and European football in the future.Trpišovský, the manager of Slavia, once more said, “He changed his head and mentality the most, gradually working on physical things that limited him a little.”

“I think he started well, then he got injured, was out for a few weeks and now, as I said, he’s not in his best shape. That’s normal for anyone who arrives at Benfica from a smaller league, they need time to adapt,” – Benfica boss Roger Schmidt.

“He’s been confident since he came to us. Maybe two or three minutes, when he jumped in for the first time in the second half of the match in England, he was a little shy. That was enough for him to show his qualities. He confirms them even at the club level and now even in the first team,” – Czech Under-21 coach Jan Suchopárek.

David Jurasek to Rangers analysis

Jurasek shown his immense talent with Slavia, amassing assists at will from his left back position. With driving runs up the left flank and the ability to feed the Slavia strikers in the last third, Jurasek displayed true dynamism.

Rangers supporters would be thrilled to see a left back like that; while Barisic is still capable of creating beautiful crosses, beating a guy down the left side isn’t exactly his forte. Given Jurasek’s size and strength, it’s understandable why Benfica was drawn to sign him.

Given the money Clement has available, a permanent transfer to Rangers this month looks a little problematic because it’s unlikely that Benfica would just let him go for a significant loss. A credit
