Lawrence Shankland status report as Hearts make first move amid transfer speculation

Hearts initiate contact amidst transfer rumors with this update on Lawrence Shankland’s situation.

Although several teams are said to be interested in Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland, Hearts have not received any firm proposals as of yet.

After a stellar debut season at the capital club, the league’s top goalscorer has been the focus of rumors since the summer. Having followed that up with another productive start to the current campaign, both Old Firm sides have been linked to potential moves, and clubs in the south as well as even wealthier foreign clubs have reportedly been keeping an eye on him.

Though the transfer window is almost over, it’s known that no firm proposals have been submitted for the prolific 28-year-old.

Hearts, who are currently third in the league and play their first Scottish Cup match against League Two Spartans on Saturday, are expected to demand more than £5 million to give up their prize asset because they recognize the importance of the Scotland forward to their hopes of winning guaranteed European football the following season.

Though he still has 18 months left on his current contract, they are not in a rush to let him go. In an effort to stop the rumors from spreading and lock down their captain with a better deal, they have started their own negotiations with Shankland, who has already scored 18 goals this season, and his representatives.

Although Hearts’ manager Steven Naismith is sure that not every transaction is decided upon just on the basis of money, the team is unlikely to be able to match the spending of others identified with an interest. However, the worst-case scenario for him would be a late transfer that gave the team little opportunity to reinvest in a replacement.
