threat.

After Fabrizio Romano’s most recent report, Josh Doig’s anticipated move to Marseille may collapse,

which could give Rangers another opportunity.

After being linked to the Light Blues throughout the January transfer window, the Scottish defender

appears to have selected the Ligue 1 team over all other options. The two have now agreed to terms.

However, the Italian writer said on January 14 that Hellas Verona was attempting to sell him to Sassuolo

of Serie A and that the French club had threatened to back out of the agreement if the transfer wasn’t

completed that day.

Romano stated: “Josh Doig’s deal with Olympiacos is very clear: either they reach an agreement with

Verona today or they move on to another target.”

“Player side deal completed, but Verona continued to press for Saturday night’s sale to Sassuolo.”

Given the apparent ultimatum, a response about the 21-year-old’s relocation to the Stade Velodrome

should come in a matter of hours.

When the Light Blues and their Italian rivals showed interest in each other’s full-backs during the

transfer window, it seemed like a move that may work out well for everyone if the two young defenders

switched positions.

It is unclear whether Doig would be willing to return to the SPFL or if his club would give up on their

seeming desire to work with Sassuolo, but if the player’s desired move to France is eliminated, he would

need to reevaluate his circumstances. Should Rangers make an offer linked to a Yilmaz deal, Verona may

find it compelling.

While the threat of Doig leaving while Yilmaz moved to replace him developed on Friday, January 12,

Rangers’ activity at left-back during the January window has emerged as a key focus. However, the

extension into the weekend may now have brought a more preferable outcome back into the picture, so

the next few hours should be crucial.
