Josh Coburn is being backed by Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick to bounce back from his

After struggling with injuries last season, Coburn was sent on loan in the summer to try to acclimatise his body to

playing Championship football on a regular basis. However, his attempts have so far been unsuccessful. Coburn

made an impression with a goal on his debut, but he was sidelined for a month due to an injury sustained in just his second game.

After his injury, he made his first start for Millwall and scored his second goal. However, two weeks ago, Coburn

broke his metatarsal, which is projected to keep him out of action for another two months.

Discussing the 22-year-old ahead of Millwall’s trip, Boro boss Carrick said: “I’ve been in contact with him. He’s

obviously disappointed, you want to play as much as possible, but he’s a good character and good personality and he

understands. Hopefully he’ll be back soon.

“It’s the story of life in general. Sometimes it’s tough and it can shape you as a person, that’s the same for players.

You have to make the best of it. Certainly loan spells as a young player can have huge benefits. Josh has done well

when he’s played, but unfortunately he’s had a few setbacks. But he’ll be better for the experience.

“I tell us again and again that there is a tonne of football. I’m hoping he’ll be able to move past this and return soon. I

have no doubt that he will be able to use these experiences to his advantage in the future.

Coburn is going to work hard to return to shape as quickly as possible. Harris, who had acknowledged being a long-

time fan of the Boro academy graduate, signed Coburn in the summer, and the Millwall manager has praised him

throughout the season. Harris will be leaving after Saturday’s match, though, and a new manager will take over until

the Boro loan player recovers from his injury.
