Sheffield Wednesday’s Danny Röhl ‘admired’ by bosses as Southampton job becomes available – reports

As Southampton’s search for a new manager gets underway, certain Premier League team members are reportedly

“envious” of Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Röhl.

Russell Martin’s time with the Saints ended when they were thrashed 5-0 by Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. The

team made the “difficult decision” to fire him because they are still at the bottom of the top division standings.

Current U21’s manager, Simon Rusk, will take over the role on an interim basis until a replacement is found, and it

will come as no surprise that former Southampton assistant, Röhl, is somebody that has already been mentioned in

relation to the position, with journalist, Jack Rosser, saying that a foreign appointment at St. Mary’s Stadium is

‘more likely’.

“Unavoidable,” he declared after it was apparent that Martin was leaving. Five games in, the dedication to flair was

commendable, but it was overdone by players who couldn’t keep up with it. Hiring didn’t help. told that a foreign

appointment is more likely, but they have no idea where they will move next. Danny Rohl is admired by some in the club.

He has made no secret of his ambition and desire to manage in the Premier League as soon as possible, but

Wednesday’s manager committed his future to the Owls by signing a new long-term contract over the summer. It is

understood that a comprehensive compensation fee would have to be paid if any club tried to entice him away from

Hillsborough.

What route Southampton take remains to be seen as they weigh up their various options in order to make the best

fist of pulling off what would be quite a miraculous survival this season, however Wednesdayites everywhere will no

doubt be holding their collective breaths as they hope for news that they’ve appointed somebody other than the man

currently in charge at S6.
