Everton star left covered in blood after clashing with own team-mate in Aston Villa draw.

Following a rough collision with teammate James Tarkowski during Everton’s Premier League match against Aston Villa, defender Vitalii Mykolenko was left covered in blood.

Mykolenko, an international player for Ukraine, was treated following a head collision with another defender; there was blood visible above his left eye. After receiving treatment, he was able to finish the match, however the delay caused the game to end with an extra seven minutes.

As a result of a solid defensive display, the 24-year-old helped Everton become just the third team this season to stop Unai Emery’s Villa from scoring in a Premier League match. As a result, Sean Dyche’s club is currently one point clear of their relegation opponents, Luton, while Everton is now in 17th place and Villa is in third.

Even though the game ended in a draw, it was entertaining since both teams had goals disallowed. Alex Moreno believed he had opened the score in the first half, but an offside call denied him, and Abdoulaye Doucoure’s celebrations were also cut short when he defeated Emi Martinez in the closing moments.

The goalless draw was Villa boss Emery’s first in 97 games in English football, dating back to his spell as Arsenal boss. Their current run of just one win in four games sees them end the weekend in fifth, behind Manchester City on goal difference after the reigning champions earned a dramatic late win at Newcastle on Saturday.

Everton knew they would end the weekend outside the bottom three after rivals Burnley and Luton drew on Friday night. Every point matter, though, as they look to move towards safety after being hit by a points deduction earlier in the campaign.

Following the tie, Tarkowski said to Match of the Day, “We played okay.” “Today, I was the target of several cuts and bruises, but I relished it. I’m just relieved that the VAR judgment went in our favor. This season, not many things have gone our way. The best chance we had was with Dominic’s [Calvert-Lewin].

“We’re still making progress and striving to reach our goals. The 10-point penalty is present. We have continued to play, and it is now our responsibility to continue scoring points.”

On Wednesday, Everton will play their FA Cup third-round replay against Crystal Palace. After his red card in the first game was reversed, striker Calvert-Lewin will be eligible for the match.
