Sheffield Wednesday have welcomed the return of one of their summer additions from a lengthy injury lay-off – though he won’t feature at Oxford United this weekend.
Olaf Kobacki, a Polish attacker, was sidelined with a muscle ailment in October but has returned to full training with his teammates this week after undergoing rehabilitation. The Stoke City encounter next weekend has been identified as a possible comeback to contention for a spot in a matchday squad.
Wednesday are in the midst of a hectic fixture schedule and just have Akin Famewo out injured. The defender is recovering from a quad injury and will return well into the new year. Kobacki’s successful return would give the Owls additional alternatives in their attacking lineup as the busy midwinter schedule continues.
Wednesday has maintained a tight eye on his squad’s condition in recent weeks, seeking to preserve players from injury through squad rotation and substitutes. It is being effective.
“It is a result of our squad management; we rotate and make substitutions, which is beneficial. My medical team is really hardworking; I am very close to Rob (Lee, head of sports science) and chat with him and Antonio (Quintela, head physio) every morning about the workload. They are doing fine. We have attempted to be as prepared as possible in the coming weeks, and we should be relieved that we do not have as many injuries.”
