Brentford move as of late
The Guardian reports that Everton and Fulham, two other Premier League teams, are interested in Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka.
Onyeka, who signed with the Bees upon their promotion to the top flight for an estimated £9 million, according to Transfermarkt, may not have played as much for the team as he would have liked until this season. In his first two seasons at the Gtech Community Stadium, he made just 41 total league appearances, meaning he missed nearly every league game that was played.
This season however, the Nigerian has featured in 15 of Brentford’s top-flight matches.
- With Fulham and Everton both wary over the futures of star central midfielders Joao Palhinha and Amadou Onana respectively, it appears the duo are both taking proactive measures and subsequently, Onyeka has been shortlisted should the worst happen and their stars leave in the coming weeks.
- A fee of over £20million has been touted for Onyeka, which would evidently give Brentford the chance to spend money in the window – and with Bryan Mbuemo out for some considerable time and with the Bees needing a winger to come into the fold, that may well spark fear on Wearside.
Brentford’s interest in Jack Clarke
Brentford were linked with Jack Clarke earlier in the transfer window, and with the Black Cats reportedly wanting £20million for his services, it’s an ideal amount for Brentford should Onyeka depart for a similar fee.
- They usually employ Ivan Toney up front with Mbeumo and Yoann Wissa on the flanks, but with Toney out for nearly a year and his comeback not far off, they’ve had to use the two in a more attacking capacity. Due to Mbeumo’s injury, Keane Lewis-Potter, Saman Ghoddos, and Mikkel Damsgaard have all started; however, none of them have made a significant impact, and as a result, Brentford is currently only four points above the drop as of this writing.
A, Clarke is perhaps the best wing prospect in the Championship right now. At just 23, he still has potential to grow, which is consistent with Brentford’s philosophy of signing players who are comparable to them in the past.
Would Jack Clarke be better off at Brentford?
- There’s various Premier League interest in Clarke’s talents, so it just seems a matter of time until he is in the top-flight – either with Sunderland or without.
Similar to Brighton, Brentford is willing to give younger players playing time in an effort to boost their transfer value. Ivan Toney is the most well-known player on the list, but players like David Raya have also been successful for the south-west London team.
To find a new club that appeals to him, Clarke needs to look for a combination of quality and game time in the Premier League. Given how poorly the Clarets are performing in the league, he may be happy he decided against joining Burnley in the summer.
