After a difficult year under former manager Erol Bulut, Cardiff City midfielder Rubin Colwill has thrived since Omer Riza came over as manager earlier this season.
Colwill rose through Cardiff’s academy ranks to become one of the most promising young players in Welsh football.
The 22-year-old’s growth halted under Bulut as he struggled for consistent playing time, but he reclaimed his position in the starting lineup when Riza took over in September, and he has since delivered some of his best performances in a Bluebirds jersey.

Despite remaining in a precarious position in the table, Colwill’s form has helped Cardiff move out of the relegation zone after a disastrous start to the season under Bulut. In October, he was nominated for the Championship Player of the Month award but lost to Norwich City’s Borja Sainz.
In recent years, the midfielder has been linked with a number of clubs, with Ipswich Town and Arsenal both said to be keeping tabs on him last summer. Southampton head coach Russell Martin described him as “a really talented player” after his side’s EFL Cup win over the Bluebirds in August, leading to speculation about a potential move to St Mary’s. after his side’s EFL Cup win over the Bluebirds in August, leading to speculation about a potential move to St Mary’s.
Cardiff City fan pundit on potential Rubin Colwill price tag
Colwill is the Bluebirds’ most valuable asset, according to FLW’s Cardiff City fan commentator Jack Price, who was asked which player he thought had the highest transfer value at the club. Price acknowledged that Colwill hasn’t reached his full potential but believed he could fetch a transfer fee of about £10 million.
“Throughout the Cardiff squad, I think the player who has the highest transfer value at this moment in time has simply got to be Rubin Colwill,” he stated.
He is undoubtedly having his best season to date, and rather than being a luxury player, he appears to be a little more sophisticated.
The team seems to be constructed around him because he starts nearly every game, contributes goals and assists, dominates games, and is a vital member of our squad.
“Colwill has always had talent and promise, but even though he hasn’t played as well as he used to in recent games, we’re finally seeing consistent delivery of that.
“He’s not even close to being the full product yet, but with his distinct profile and the abundance of talent at his disposal, he has the potential to become a major player in the future, so it would take a significant sum of money to pry him away.
To put a figure out there, I personally wouldn’t take less than £10 million for him, and that’s also the lowest amount I would accept.
“It might be difficult to defend that in one sense when you consider a guy like Jack Clarke, who cost £15 million and destroyed the league in recent years.
Is Colwill yet to reach that level? Though his potential is frightening, I don’t think so.
It will cost a lot of money to get him to leave since I don’t think we can afford to see him.
“He’s the player who would command the highest price tag at this moment, but Alex Robertson is up there as well, and I fancy us to make a massive profit from him in the years to come.”
Rubin Colwill must start to deliver consistently for Cardiff City
Colwill has always been a thrilling talent, but the fact that he is still seen as a player with promise implies that he hasn’t yet reached the level of success that Cardiff fans had hoped for.
Colwill has “a long way to go” and manager Craig Bellamy said that he “would have expected more” from him at this point in his career after he was called up to the Wales squad last month.
It is hard to disagree with Bellamy’s remarks, even though Colwill has played for a Bluebirds team that has struggled recently and has had a number of different managers.
Colwill could definitely fetch the £10 million transfer fee Jack suggests one day, but for now he needs to start playing regularly. With Cardiff giving Riza the position permanently, he has the ideal chance to continue improving under a manager who obviously believes in him.
