Confirmed: Fabio Silva could star in Rangers behind-closed-doors friendly as he jets out to Spain

New Rangers signing Fabio Silva could feature in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Hertha Berlin on Saturday, according to Scottish Daily Mail.

The Scots news source said that the Wolves loanee was a member of the Light Blues team that left on Wednesday, January 10, for a warm-weather training camp in Spain (print edition, page 69).Before the winter break, Silva made his Rangers debut as a substitute in the 3-1 victory over Kilmarnock. Silva had spent the second half of the season on loan from Wolves at Ibrox, where he was a member of Philippe Clement’s squad.

The hope is that Silva will help solve the problems the Light Blues have faced in front of goal in the first half of the season and could be in line for much-needed minutes against the Hertha Berlin on Saturday.

Needs minutes

Even though Silva is an intriguing addition, it seems like the Rangers signed a bit of an unknown quantity in January when they signed him. During the majority of his loan stints away from Molineux, he hasn’t been a true number nine, and even when he has been used there, he has had trouble scoring goals on a regular basis.

More crucially, he’s barely played all season which makes this signing at Ibrox a huge risk but one which Philippe Clement was prepared to take so Rangers fans must trust his judgement given the tremendous progress he’s made. To fire on all cylinders as quickly as possible, the Portuguese attacker needs match rhythm and minutes in his legs; a start versus Hertha Berlin may be a huge boost for him.

He will probably aid Rangers in their battle at the top of the Scottish Premiership table if he gets off to a quick start at Ibrox, but it would be unrealistic to count on him to score all of the goals necessary to propel them to victory.
