Report:Aston Villa need to get this transfer right this year

Aston Villa have identified goalkeeper and right-back as two positions which they want to sign. This may not be done until the summer window, however, says John Townley.

It has been made no secret over recent weeks that Aston Villa are looking to make attacking reinforcement signings. This has seen Unai Emery linked to signing versatile forwards like Cyril Ngonge but that deal appears to have gone cold. The Villans have also been included in rumours linking striker, Artem Dovbyk to the club who is more of a target man.

It must be said that if any of these players were to come in, there would be stern competition for a place in the starting XI There are other areas of the pitch and squad which could see new players come in and take their place immediately.

Report:Unai Emery now ‘hopeful’ that Aston Villa will make one signing in January transfer window

The Villa Park side have been quiet in this market, with the Premier League title hopefuls yet to make any major moves with no big-name players departing the Birmingham-based club either. Rumours have been there in recent weeks linking Villa with the likes of Crysencio Summerville and Wilfried Zaha, though it appears that Emery wants a signing in a completely different position.

According to Birmingham Live,

The Spanish coach is ‘hopeful’ that Villa sign a young goalkeeper this month, with Emery seemingly keen to plan his squad out for the future. Emiliano Martinez is, of course, the undisputed no. 1 at Villa Park, yet at 31-years-old, the Villians would be wise to find a long-term replacement for the Argentine international now rather than later. Indeed, securing such a transfer this month would be quite the move from Villa, though given how important such deal is, there’s every chance that this move is held off until the summer.

John Townley on Villa interest in keeper and full-back

It has been a quiet window for the whole of the Premier League and not just Villa. This as there has only been two incoming transfers to the league, according to FotMob.

Villa have done some business but this has only been on the outgoings as youngsters have been loaned out. This has seen Ben Chrisene and Kerr Smith make temporary moves while Finn Azaz went permanently. With that being said, John Townley for the Birmingham Mail has suggested that the Villa do have two positions in mind to bring in.

On that, he said: “Villa want to sign a young goalkeeper either in this window or in the summer. A right-back will also be targeted. But given the limited options in the market, Villa could hold fire until the summer.

Jeremie Frimpong has been linked and will have a release clause of £35 million after the end of this season.”
