Michy Batshuayi silences talk of imminent Rangers switch to send Fenerbahce message

Michy Batshuayi puts in a pin in those Rangers links once and for all and sends a Fenerbahce message with his latest goal of the club.

The 30-year-old Belgian international striker was linked to an unexpected winter transfer to the Ibrox giants following a disagreement over insufficient playing time in Turkey. According to local journalists, the striker was reportedly about to leave the country after posting an apparent photo of himself on Instagram from Dubai. However, that was not the case as Fenerbahce defeated Konyaspor 7-1 in the Super Lig to keep their lead, thanks to a goal from Michy Batshuayi, who came off the bench.

Michy Batshuayi scores as Fenerbahce romp Konyaspor

Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko put on a spectacular display, scoring a first-half hat-trick to demonstrate why he is favored above Michy Batshuayi for Fenerbahce. Despite being 37 years old, the great striker from Manchester City and Inter Milan is still quite effective in front of goal for Fenerbahce.

Edin Dzeko, who has scored 20 goals in 24 games since joining the team in the summer, had a well-deserved break when Michy Bathsuayi entered the game off the substitute at halftime.

With Mert Mulder and Sebastian Szymanski adding goals four and five before the break, Ibrox-linked Batshuayi made it six within 15 minutes of the restart. The Belgian striker touched a through ball over the top down and around the keeper before tapping it into an empty net and certainly didn’t celebrate like a man who wants to leave Turkey.

Konyaspor defender Ugurcan Yazgili would then net an own goal before Brazilian counterpart Guilherme added a late consolation for the Super Lig relegation candidates. Fenerbahce meanwhile look like a very talented side and in a neck-and-neck title race with Galatasaray they currently sit three points clear having played a game more.

Rangers striker hunt continues in transfer window

Michy Batshuayi is playing second fiddle to Edin Dzeko at Fenerbahce with good reason but the Turks are clearly eager to involve both players in their matches. The Bosnian striker is one of European football’s elite marksmen whilst Michy Batshuayi has scored goals in Belgium, France, England, Spain, Germany, and at national team level.

It is evident that the club wants both players to stay, as president Ali Koc stated that Batshuayi, who is still valued in Turkey, is the team’s top option for leaving in January. The striker department at Fenerbahce is undoubtedly well-stocked, and according to Michy Batshuayi, those players cool down just as fast as they warm up, therefore Rangers supporters will now shift their focus elsewhere.

The latest names to be linked to Philippe Clement’s search for a new marksman during the transfer window are Nigerian forward Emmanuel Dennis and Hearts legend Lawrence Shankland. Joe Gelhardt, a Leeds United prospect, has also been mentioned as a possible Rangers target.
