Pollard Ready For Playoffs: ‘Pound The Ball!’

Although Tony Pollard, the running back for the Dallas Cowboys, hasn’t had the kind of season he had hoped for in his first as the unquestioned lead back, it wasn’t a complete bust. Pollard almost missed surpassing 1,000 running yards for the second straight season with 70 yards in Sunday’s victory over the Washington Commanders.

Even though it required many more tries than the previous season, he managed to reach his objective and accomplish a significant one for both the team and himself.”It’s a big milestone for us, for myself and for the O-line,” Pollard said after Sunday’s game. “I know they pride themselves in having a 1,000-yard back every year, so that was big for us, and to get that momentum going.”

Even if Pollard hasn’t been as efficient as he has in the past, the Cowboys have still put together an effective ground game that ranks 14th in rushing yards per game. It may not be the league’s best, but it’s more than good enough to complement the Cowboys’ high-flying aerial attack.

That balance was on full display against Washington on Sunday, a 38-10 win that clinched the NFC East and the conference’s No. 2 seed for Dallas. With 309 passing yards and 131 rushing yards, the Cowboys were able to attack the Commanders’ defense from every angle en route to a dominant win. With the playoffs beginning, Pollard knows that the Cowboys will have to maintain a similar balance to find success.
