Ladies’ champion Bushra Fatima wins the fifth Wapda Amateur Golf Championship.

In the ladies’ division of the 5th Wapda Amateur Golf Championship 2023, which took place at the Royal Palm Golf and Country Club on Thursday, young talent Bushra Fatima emerged victorious. Bushra Fatima (handicap 6) made an unforgettable impression with her outstanding performance that brought the women tournament to a close on Thursday. Bushra’s incredible golfing abilities were evident when she won with scores of 81 and 78, for a total of 159. Bushra’s five-stroke lead over second-place finisher Zeb ul Nisa (169) and third-place finisher Shabana Waheed (196) highlighted her domination on the course.

Notably, thirteen-year-old Bushra Fatima made remarkable strides in 2021, cutting her handicap from 36 to 9 in just a single year. Playing three strokes under her handicap, Ana James Gill showed determination to win the ladies’ net category with a net score of 146. With a net score of 148, Minaa Zainab grabbed second place, and Saqiba Batook, a recent arrival, took third place with a net score of 149.

On his home field, Abdul Rauf Ali of Royal Palm secured the first gross position in the men’s seniors event with a score of 160 strokes.  Tariq Usman of PAF Skyview took third place with a score of 165, while Asim Tiwana of Royal Palm grabbed the second gross position with 164 strokes.

On the opening day of the three-day competition, the amateurs took to the course and engaged in intense competition over 54 holes. Qasim Khan and Sam Latif, who both play PAR rounds of 72 and presently share the top slot, were two of the notable performers. With a score of 73, Hussain Hamid put on a solid showing while playing on his home course.

The other notables, who are aiming for better performances on the second day, are five strokes or less behind.

It is worth mentioning, Munazza Shaheen, TARS Qualified, is the Chief Referee for the Championship. She has the singular honour in Pakistan to qualify in the latest 2023 Rules, from St. Andrews, UK. ‘Ms. Munazza was vigilante on the Course, giving rulings that were by the book, without dispute.

Living up to her high qualification,’ Mr. Shahid Javed, the Tournament Director, stated with pride.
