They may require some improvements, given that they were eliminated in the playoffs before being able to defend their World Series title in the Fall Classic.
But with players returning who are eager to climb to the top of the mountain, the Astros already have a roster in “win now” mode. One in particular is their standout third baseman, Alex Bregman, who hinted in an interview with MLB.com’s Brian McTaggart that he might have a monster offensive season.
Everyone is aware of the circumstances surrounding Bregman’s upcoming free agency following the conclusion of the 2024 season by this point. He’s not allowing that, though, to distort his assessment of this year. “I’m playing like I want to have my best year ever as I head into the season.”
So, how might the two-time All-Star, coming off a season with a slash line of .262/.363/.441, 25 home runs and 98 RBI, accomplish that?
He tells McTaggart he’s been rigorously training this offseason without rehabbing an injury for the first time in a few years. He’s been working on building his body and his swing in the batting cage for hours upon hours a day.
“Physically I feel like I’m in the best shape of my life, mechanically with my swing, and being able to hit in the offseason for the first time in maybe four years has been amazing,” he stated.
Although Bregman has only received one Silver Slugger award in his career, he has been among the best hitters at his position the entire time. However, it appears like the third baseman has been somewhat underappreciated since his 2019 All-Star game selection. Bregman is prepared to remind people of his exceptional talent, having demonstrated his status as an elite player.
