“Desperate”: Pundit drops Reading FC takeover claim after Noel Hunt and Dan Yongge reveal
Talks of a possible takeover have been going on for what seems like forever; thus, the ownership position of Reading
Football Club has recently been well reported.
On the pitch, things have drastically changed since the Royals had to find a new manager when former manager
Ruben Selles was acquired by Hull City in the Championship.
Shortly after Selles left, Noel Hunt was elevated from U21s manager to first team manager; therefore, the club
decided to appoint from within rather than look outside for a new manager.
Reading’s last five league results | |
---|---|
Opposition | Result |
Wycombe (A) | 1-1 D |
Cambridge United (H) | 3-0 W |
Barnsley (A) | 2-2 D |
Peterborough United (A) | 2-1 W |
Stevenage (A) | 1-1 D |
It will be an exciting time for Hunt, who is getting his first genuine chance at senior management, but it is crucial
that he keeps his attention on the task at hand and avoids becoming sidetracked by the football club’s larger
problems.
In a concerning interview this past weekend, it was revealed that Hunt had not received any communication from
Dai Yongge, the owner of Reading, before to or during his hiring. This implies that the customary rapport between a
manager and their chairman is just not present.
Pundit Carlton Palmer speaks on the matter
Dai Yongge has recently made headlines for all the wrong reasons, and this latest revelation about his lack of
communication with the new boss only serves to highlight the necessity of a takeover.
Even though Reading desperately needs a takeover, former England star and current commentator Carlton Palmer
talked exclusively to FLW about the work that has been done at the club.
Since Dai Yongge took over as Reading’s manager in place of Ruben Selles, Noel Hunt says he hasn’t spoken to the
owner. Noel has expressed to the media how honoured he feels to be managing Reading.
“He stepped into the dugout less than 24 hours after his appointment was announced and oversaw a 1-1 draw against
League One leaders, Wycombe Wanderers.”
“He said he was contacted by the Head of Recruitment, Brian Carey, who called him to ask him if he was interested
in the role. At the end of the day, he said that everyone is disappointed that Ruben Selles has left the club, and so
they should be.”
“He was doing a fantastic job and is a good manager, but I think the uncertainty at the football club and the
uncertainty about the takeover, and then getting the opportunity to move on was always going to be a problem for
Dai Yongge and Reading Football Club.”
“They want the takeover to happen badly. For the players, the team, and all those involved, it cannot come soon
enough. Ruben Selles has done an amazing job considering the circumstances he was in.
“They have been able to move on and stay away from the commotion surrounding the takeover at the football club. It
has been going on for a while; it hasn’t suddenly turned into a saga.
“Despite all of the drama surrounding the football team, it’s simply amazing to see them achieving results week after
week. It will be better if this takeover is approved as quickly as possible and the football team is given some stability.
The latest regarding the ownership of Reading FC
Dai Yongge has been the club’s owner for a period of years, but his popularity is declining as supporters grow
increasingly impatient for a takeover.
In a recent statement, Reading said that talks with an unidentified prospective buyer were still in progress and that
the deal had turned out to be a difficult and drawn-out one.
Aside from the buyout rumours, Yongge has also made headlines due to a £10.3 million compensation claim made by
Rob Couhig, the former owner of Wycombe.
Even though Couhig had loaned the club £5 million to cover operating expenses, Yongge pulled out of a £30 million
deal after all the paperwork needed to secure Couhig’s takeover of the club was finished.
If Couhig’s allegations prove to be true, Reading Football Club will suffer greatly as their problems off the pitch only become worse.
