Browne saves a penalty as Watford U21s claim win at Swansea

Three second-half goals and a penalty save from keeper Roraigh Browne helped earn Watford Under-21s a 3-1 away

win at Swansea City last night.

Browne – who is currently out on loan at AFC Dunstable – provided the game’s pivotal moment as it was his spot-

kick save in the 65th minute that prevented the home side from going ahead for the first time.

Within five minutes the Hornets youngsters had struck twice to go 3-1 up and secure a victory that lifts them to sixth

in the Premier League Development League South table.

It was a relatively young team that started in Wales, although there was a dusting of players who have tasted senior

action including skipper Albert Eames, Zavier Massiah-Edwards and Amin Nabizada.

With Richard Faayke headed past the post, Glory Nzingo’s curling attempt deflected wide, and Sammy Henia-Kamau

blasting a free-kick into the wall, the home team had the better chances in a quiet first half.

Watford scored the first goal in the 57th minute through Nabizada, who also scored for the Under-18s last week

when they defeated Oxford 2-1 in the FA Youth Cup, following a goalless first forty-five minutes.

Five minutes later, Nzingo gave the Swans the equaliser, and they were nearly immediately given a penalty.

But after a thrilling stretch of play, Browne stopped Kyrell Wilson’s penalty kick, and seven minutes later, the

Hornets were up 3-1 after having threatened to fall behind 2-1.

Replace Laken Massiah-Edwards gave Watford a lead in the 70th minute by making it 3-1, and Torres had only been

on the pitch three minutes when he scored to make it 2-1.

That was sufficient to guarantee the points and give Charlie Daniels’ team five victories in their previous seven league

and cup contests.

The Under-21 team’s match against Bristol City is scheduled for Monday, December 16, at 1pm at London Colney.

Browne; Eames, Watkiss, Barrett, Gould, Almeida, Fraser-Grante (Sikiru 80), Massiah-Edwards (Sanghrajka 80),
