Official announcement sees Gers secure £4m striker for January, it was a close call

Rangers given January striker boost after official announcement.

Philippe Clement would have been perspiring while Cyriel Dessers was on standby to join Nigeria since the Rangers injury list doesn’t require any more intervention.

The Super Eagles looked to Terem Moffi first, but they had to wait for Nice to approve their move.

This intriguing rule gives clubs the authority to make further calls-ups after the official squads are announced. Rangers might have taken use of this loophole to sign Cyriel Dessers after he was placed on stand-by.

Rangers can count on Cyriel Dessers for title charge

It would take a lot of bad luck for Nigeria to be contacted by Dessers right now, as countries are permitted to call up fresh players up to 24 hours prior to their first tournament match.

Nice has exerted pressure on Moffi and insisted that their striker be available for their match against Rennes this coming Saturday.

This implies that he will miss the opportunity to play with former Gers stars Calvin Bassey and Joe Aribo in the Super Eagles’ opening match against Equatorial Guinea.

Rangers will now, barring any more injuries on top of Danilo and Kemar Roofe, at least be able to rely on Fabio Silva and Cyriel Dessers after the winter break.

The £4.5m summer signing has been hit and miss to say the least since arriving from Serie A and he will be hoping that there are more of the match winning performances than the ones where great opportunities are passed up.

At his best, he could be the striker to replace Alfredo Morelos, however, at his worst – as we saw at Parkhead – he is almost a man down.

It would still be a surprise if manager Philippe Clement doesn’t bring another forward to Ibrox this month but there aren’t many names getting bandied about.

The big Belgian keeps his cards a lot closer to his chest than his predecessor in the Ibrox hot seat, hopefully he has more success spotting a striker too.

Fenerbahce to add £1.1m Italian icon to wage bill amid Rangers Michy Batshuayi links

Legendary Italian defender Leonardo Bonucci is about to join Turkish club Fenerbahce, while Rangers are reportedly interested in forward Michy Batshuayi.

Leading transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano believes that the 36-year-old Union Berlin defender will make €1.3 million (£1.1 million) during his six months in Turkey.

With players like Dusan Tadic, Edin Dzeko, and Michy Batshuayi already at the club, the move is likely to put even more strain on Fenerbahce’s already substantial pay expenditure.

Rangers are said to be leading the hunt for the Belgian striker, 30, who appears set to move on from Fenerbahce this window.

Reports in Turkey have claimed the forward is on the way out of the Istanbul club whilst he’s just been spotted in Dubai as his teammates prepare for a crunch Super Lig game.

Fenerbahce to add Leonardo Bonucci to wage bill

Reports coming out of Turkey have suggested that the striker is ready to leave the Istanbul club after 18 months due to a lack of playing time.

Michy Batshuayi is also a high-earner at Fenerbahce and – with links to clubs in Belgium and France – the Turks could be busy with ins and outs this window.

Rangers meanwhile are on the hunt for a new striker although it is not clear if the Ibrox club could match the sorts of wages Michy Batshuayi is earning at Fenerbahce.

Given Fenerbahce’s move for Leonardo Bonucci one wonders if the Turkish side will now be looking to take some strain off the club’s wage bill, even on a temporary basis.

Talk of wages has certainly dampened the excitement around any deal as Rangers fans continue to muse over who Philippe Clement might sign to become the club’s leading hitman this winter.

Can Rangers boss convince Michy Batshuayi?

Michy Batshuayi is a player who is very familiar to Belgian manager Philippe Clement – who tried to sign the striker for Club Brugge three-and-a-half years ago – but the costs involved have raised doubts over a switch.

The Portuguese striker Fabio Silva turned down loan offers from other teams and forwent a wage decrease to join the Ibrox team in January, the Rangers manager did disclose.

Though Michy Batshuayi may need to do the same, regular football, a title fight, fan adoration, and a run in the Europa League all have their own allure.

The circumstance also emphasizes how competitive Rangers are in the current transfer market, as the Gers are unable to offer the kind of compensation that draw players to Turkey.
