Two Bristol City players have now received three yellow cards this season ahead of Tuesday night’s match against Sunderland.
Bristol City have avoided losing another player to suspension after picking up five bookings this season, ahead of their match against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday.
This season, Mark Sykes and Joe Williams have missed matches due to receiving five yellow cards, resulting in a one-game suspension in the Championship. However, this only applies to the first 19 games of the season, and Saturday’s 3-0 loss to Portsmouth was the Reds’ 19th league game of the season.
That means Tuesday night’s match against the Black Cats will be City’s 20th, and any bookings made in the North East will contribute towards the next level. Players who receive 10 yellow cards within 37 league matches will face a two-match penalty beginning Tuesday night.
On Wednesday, March 12, the Robins will meet Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on matchday 37. While it is rare, a player who receives 15 bookings in that time period will face a three-match suspension.
