December 10, London — As their teammate recovers from a terrible car accident, West Ham players Jarrod Bowen and Tomas Soucek dedicated yesterday’s crucial 2-1 victory over Wolves to Michail Antonio.

After being cut out of his Ferrari after the horrific accident in Epping, Jamaican striker Antonio had surgery on a fractured lower limb.

Julen Lopetegui, the manager of West Ham, said that the 34-year-old’s survival of the collision was a “miracle.”

In the ninth minute, Hammers supporters matched Antonio’s shirt number with a minute of applause.

And Bowen raised his teammate’s jersey in celebration of his incredible 72nd-minute winner on a night when Antonio was always on West Ham’s mind.

That was crucial. He’s not here with us to share that moment, but I’m sure he was watching, and you heard the fans. “A couple of days filled with emotion,” Bowen remarked.

Prior to Matt Doherty’s equalizer, Soucek had put West Ham ahead, and the Czech midfielder acknowledged that it was an emotional occasion.

“He was the target. To him, I dedicated it. “I really wanted to score even more today,” Soucek stated prior to the game.

He has been here ever since I arrived. I think he’s my favorite. I mentioned that it would be difficult for me to perform without him

That he is doing well makes me glad. I adore him, and he is a huge player. For us, it was quite difficult.

“I was terrified of what would occur. He, his family, and we had a really difficult week.

After his surgery, Antonio, who had played in every Premier League match for West Ham this season before the collision, is being watched in the hospital.

Speaking to the players prior to the match at the London Stadium, Soucek disclosed that his friend was the driving force behind West Ham’s victory over their relegation rivals.

Before the game, the entire team and I had a video conversation with him. He gave us his best wishes and smiled at us. I’m eager to see him,” he said.

In addition to being amusing, he is a truly nice guy. Before the game, he even cracked a few jokes and sent us his best wishes. — AFP
