Sheffield United: Chris Wilder issues update on Tyrese Campbell situation ahead of Millwall

Sheffield United coach Chris Wilder is optimistic that Tyrese Campbell will be fit enough to feature against Millwall on Wednesday after picking up a knock against West Bromwich Albion.

With a 2-2 draw against the Baggies on Sunday at the Hawthorns, Wilder’s team helped and encouraged them to continue their present run of interminable stalemates.

Torbjorn Heggem and Tom Fellows, one with a little more luck than the other, both got the ball past Michael Cooper in the United net, although the Blades haven’t given up many goals in a league game.

Heggem’s headed attempt put Wilder’s team under 1-0, but they swiftly responded with two goals in two minutes.

Callum O’Hare and Campbell quickly turned the game in the visitors’ favour with two close-range efforts in the 35th and 37th minutes, but the striker was unable to play for much longer. He was replaced by Ryan One less than a third of the way into the second half after pulling up with a seeming hamstring problem.

Wilder hopes the 24-year-old, who has now scored six goals in his previous eight outings, can overcome the problem in time for Wednesday’s match at The Den.

On his number 23, the United boss stated, “He’s okay,” according to The Star. His back has been a little stiff all week, so I believe it’s more neurological than hamstring or ligament issues. It became more tightly wound.

Rhian Brewster and Kieffer Moore have both returned from injury, so United would at least have some good options to replace the team’s leading scorer in the league if he were to miss the Millwall game.

“We’ve got Kieffer back for Wednesday, Anel [Ahmedhodzic] back for Wednesday, Harry [Souttar] back for Wednesday,” Wilder said. They’re really important players. Rhian returned today and is readjusting to his surroundings.

“I was thrilled with Alfie [Gilchrist] playing out of position and it was a wonderful experience for the players. Hopefully, Tyrese will be OK and ready for Wednesday.

Sheffield United’s January window is now considerably simpler thanks to Tyrese Campbell.

The Blades will likely save some money in the upcoming season as a result of Campbell becoming their first-choice striker, provided that this injury doesn’t prove to be a significant problem.

In the summer, they had been considering other striker alternatives, such as Ricky-Jade Jones of Peterborough United, with whom they might attempt again in January.

Now that Campbell is scoring at a respectable pace, there are a number of strikers to pick from, including the seasoned Moore and the former Liverpool player.
