Everton handed major boost ahead of Aston Villa clash as decision confirmed

The striker will be available for the Toffees when Villa visits Goodison Park this weekend, according to the most recent Aston Villa news.

For Everton’s Premier League encounter against Aston Villa, forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be available.

Villa this past weekend following the upholding of a wrongful dismissal claim.

In the 79th minute of Everton’s FA Cup match against Crystal Palace, the attacker was shown a straight red card at

Thursday evening in Selhurst Park. After a VAR review, the verdict was made, but supporters were perplexed as to why it was a red card.

Everton manager Sean Dyche responded to the ruling by confirming that the team was considering filing an appeal. “I’ll verify the procedure again,” he declared.

But then again, it’s a risk-reward situation. Does it make sense to invest in it or not? Nobody knows what will happen with these judgments today, in my opinion.

“We’ll observe, evaluate it, obtain an outside perspective, and then make a decision.”

Everton did go ahead with their appeal with the FA confirming on Tuesday that it was successful. A statement read: “Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be available for Everton’s next three games following a successful claim of wrongful dismissal.

“The striker was sent off for serious foul play in the Emirates FA Cup game against Crystal Palace on Thursday, 4 January 2024.”

Calvert-Lewin can play again when Villa visits Everton in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon thanks to the appeal’s success. The striker has three goals in the Premier League thus far, but after scoring the game-winning goal against West Ham in October, he has not appeared on the scoresheet.

In his seven Everton appearances across all competitions against Villa, the 26-year-old has scored twice. The most recent occurred during a September 2-1 Carabao Cup victory at Villa Park.
