Done Deal: Rangers player seals loan exit, could debut for new club tonight

Rangers: Done deal as Jay Hogarth seals Ibrox loan exit in January transfer announcement.

Jay Hogarth has joined Dumbarton on loan for the balance of the 2023–24 season, Rangers have revealed.

Although the 20-year-old goalie hasn’t made a senior team appearance for Rangers, he has been included in matchday squads for European events.

Hogarth will be a member of the team that plays Peterhead later on Tuesday, January 9, according to a tweet from Dumbarton announcing the change.

Further experience

Even if Hogarth is still in his early career, having first-team experience away from Ibrox will help him in the long run.

Joining a League Two squad is a bit of a step down for the young player, who made 33 appearances for Alloa in Scottish League One previous season.

That being said, the goal of this move is to give Hogarth some playing time before he returns to Ibrox in the summer.

The challenge he confronts is that, like other keepers, he must eventually usurp an established number one at Rangers.

The bad news is that Jack Butland, or at the very least, their finest summer acquisition, has been one of the Gers’ best players thus far this season.

He is ranked below Robby McCrorie and Kieran Wright, so it wouldn’t be shocking to see another loan move later this year.

With his stellar B team performance and consistent training with the seniors, Hogarth has a bright future ahead of him. His priority right now needs to be making an impression at Dumbarton.
